Foreign firms want global security experts.
PHUSADEE ARUNMAS
Foreign business chambers have urged the government to hire international experts with skills in bomb disposal and security to patrol areas that need special care, such as airports, hotels and shopping malls. Pramon Suthivong, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC), said many foreign business representatives had stayed calm after the deadly New Year's Eve bombings that rocked the capital. But they wanted the government to actively and effectively carry out security measures at venues frequented by foreign tourists, he said.
The foreigners wanted to see additional security measures in place permanently, Mr Pramon added.
Some have also complained that security at Suvarnabhumi Airport was inadequate. ''For example, some doors should not be shut but opened to allow for a flow of passengers,'' he said.
Dusit Nontanakorn, the secretary-general of the TCC, said the organisation had circulated instructions to more than 20,000 members to raise awareness about safety concerns.
As well, the chamber has asked its members to help explain the country's situation to their foreign trade partners.
