UK education festival starts on Friday

'The 7th Thai-UK Education Festival", organised by the British Council and the Ministry of Education, will be held from this Friday to February 15, with the theme "Education Beyond Borders: Innovation in Learning".

The festival will hold workshops and seminars such as "Connected Learning Community", "Innovative Teaching with ICT in Thai Classrooms", "Master Class on Thinking Skills" and "Integrating Thinking Skills and English Language Learning in the Thai Curriculum".

There will also be a discussion on "To the End of the Earth: Climate Change and the Arctic" by Quentin Cooper.

The regular Education UK Exhibition will be held at the InterContinental Hotel over the weekend; at the Amari Rincome Hotel, Chiang Mai, on February 6 and at the Raja Orchid Hotel, Khon Kaen, on February 8.

Meditation

The House of Dhamma offers meditation instruction in the north of Bangkok. You can find individual or small group instruction, in English, in Insight Meditation (Vipassana), Metta Meditation and Reiki Healing workshops, amongst others. Caravan Theatre youth project

Caravan Theatre is launching the "Caravan Theatre Youth Project", a series of professional theatrical training workshops to prepare participants for a production of Alice in Wonderland, to be staged from June 1 to 3.

University and high school students are invited to join the three-and-a-half month project, starting on February 17. The fee is 3,000 baht. For students from eight to 20, auditions will be held on March 3 at Thammasat University's Sriburapa auditorium. There are 13 speaking roles and a cast of 40 extras and dancers.

Grammy Card will hold a "Deejay Generation No. 9" workshop, where participants can learn the theory and practice of deejaying.

Taking the workshop will be Saithip "Deejay Chod" Montrikul Na Ayudhya and deejays from radio stations. The workshop, for people aged from 15 to 35, will be held every Saturday in March. Gift of love concert

The Gift of Life Foundation and the Bone Marrow Transplant Club is staging a "Giving the Gift of Life with Love II" concert, featuring classical, blues and jazz love songs. The concert will be performed by Karen Klongtruadroke, Rattana Wongsansern, Suvicharn Angkatawanich, Ruengkit Yongpiyakul and Nat Yontrararak on February 11 at the Thailand Cultural Centre. Tickets are 800 and 500 baht, and are available at the foundation (02-930-4004) and Nat Studio (02-541-8664 and 02-541-8667). Proceeds will go towards the treatment of Poowadol Jaitrong, a 15-year-old lymphoma patient.

University lecture

Bangkok University Gallery and Bangkok University's Department of Visual Art will hold a lecture on "Glocalisation" by Chaiyan Chaiyaporn, a lecturer at Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Political Science. The lecture will be held on February 10, from 1 to 4pm at Bangkok University's Charoen Khanthawong building.
