BBL targets 30% rise in Internet banking
Market leader Bangkok Bank projects 30% growth in its Internet banking services this year.
The bank had 210,000 Bualuang iBanking customers at the end of 2006, up 30% from the previous year and double the number from the end of 2004.
Valaiporn Niramai, the head of Bangkok Bank's iBanking service, noted that since the bank started Internet banking in mid-2003, it has consistently been ranked the most popular channel by the bank's customers. ATMs were ranked second, with branches third in the online survey of iBanking customers.
Mrs Valaiporn said that more men than women used the online service, with the typical customer aged 20 to 39, a private employee with a bachelor's degree or higher and monthly salary of 20,000 to 50,000 baht.
"Internet use is growing fast, both in terms of transactions and volume. Online transactions are simply more convenient than going to a branch," she said.
Last year the bank handled 1.3 million transactions online, excluding chequing accounts, worth 80 billion baht in total.
