RACE TO PARLIAMENT
Banharn's wife walks into a spot of trouble
Bad luck struck the Chart Thai party again yesterday when its leader's wife, Khunying Jaemsai Silpa-archa, walked into a suggestion box and cut her head during the last leg of the party's election campaign tour in Suphan Buri's U Thong district.
Three weeks earlier, Chart Thai leader Banharn Silpa-archa and other candidates of the party, including former actress Janista Liewchalermwong, fell into a polluted canal while campaigning in Bangkok's Don Muang district.
Khunying Jaemsai cut her head in the accident yesterday, but her pain appeared to ease after receiving comfort from her husband, who caressed her face and blew on her bandage.
Khunying Jaemsai and Mr Banharn separately led two groups of Chart Thai candidates and canvassers to meet constituents in downtown U Thong district yesterday.
While walking around the town centre, Khunying Jaemsai, 73, accidentally bumped into the municipality's suggestion box, attached to a roadside power pole, and cut her head.
Her children, daughter Kanchana and son Worawut, as well as the rest of the Chart Thai team accompanying her were visibly alarmed by the accident.
However, a doctor at a nearby clinic quickly gave her first-aid treatment. A doctor from U Thong hospital also rushed to give her a quick check-up at the town centre. Both doctors confirmed her injury was not serious.
After the check-up, Khunying Jaemsai told her team she could continue canvassing in U Thong town with them.
An hour later, Khunying Jaemsai's team reunited with Mr Banharn's. As soon as he saw the bandage on his wife's head, Mr Banharn quickly came up to her and offered her comfort.
