The first collection of stamps from Bhutan's Wangchuk royal family

The first collection of stamps from Bhutan's Wangchuk royal family
For the first time Bhutan's Wangchuk family will produce a collection of postage stamps to mark the 100th anniversary of the royal family that has ruled the country since 1907.

The stamps are to show the Bhutanese commitment to traditions and their loyalty to the monarchy.

A set contains the stamps of five kings including the fifth king Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, who will officially take the throne in 2008. It will be the first time that the fifth king is being portrayed with his royal crown. Contained in the set is the 100th anniversary emblem.

The stamps will be printed by Siam Cement Group's Thai British Security Printing and will be on sale in Thailand for US$27 (Bt823) through the International House of Stamps from February and via www.bhutanpostagestamps.com.

"Thai British Security Printing is renowned for antiforgery printing and excellence in printing equipment. Thailand and Bhutan also have an excellent and longterm relationship especially in traditions and religious belief," said Frances Todd Stewart, chairman of Creative Products International, which acts as the special events representative for the Bhutan Postal Corporation.

A CD stamp will also be available. Sized at 8 cm, the CD can be posted on envelopes and is priced at Bt150.
