INTERNET SITE OF THE WEEK
GEOFF LONG
Remember Henry Blodget? In the great dot-com goldrush of the late 90s, he was a star securities analyst and sought after for his views on the main dot-com firms. However, like many of the dot-coms that he rated, he came back to earth after emails from his days at Merrill Lynch were made public.
The allegations against him were that he had a conflict of interest when it came to companies or investors he was advising. He was subsequently charged with securities fraud and banned for life from the securities industry. He also apparently paid a lot of money in settlements.
So what became of him, you might wonder? Well, as of July 19 this year he has been a contributor to a web site/blog called the Silicon Alley Insider (http://www.alleyinsider.com), which he co-founded with two others. It's still in beta but already it's turning into one of the top news web sites covering the various industries that make up the digital economy.
In its own words, it covers "the intersection of the technology, media, and communications industries, with a focus on companies and people making waves in New York. Specifically, we provide news, commentary, and discussion about digital publishing, entertainment, news, music, social networking, mobile, and gaming." So if that's your beat, no matter whether you think Blodget was a villain or victim, you could do worse than head down to Silicon Alley Insider.
