IBM offers backups for SMB sector
SASIWIMON BOONRUANG
IBM Thailand will move into the SMB and end-user markets with its Tivoli Continuous Data Protection (CDP), which enables continuous backups on PCs, notebooks and file servers.
According to Jadesada Kraisingkorn, IBM Thailand country manager, Software Group, IBM Tivoli software is well known in the corporate segment but this is the first time IBM has tried the the SMB channel and end-user market.
"We see that individuals today have a lot of data files - important files, work files, personal files and pictures - and they would like to keep them, but 60 percent of personal data in PCs is rarely protected," she said.
IBM Tivoli CDP for files is a real-time data safety net that provides PC users and SMBs with continuous backup for information on laptops, desktop computers and enterprise file servers in one solution.
The software captures and saves important information to documents continuously in real-time and also sends an encrypted copy of the information to a remote location such as a USB drive, external hard disk, web server or storage area network (SAN).
The software installs in a few simple steps. It determines where data should be saved on the laptop or PC and configures the memory key or other remote location to receive the backup copy. "The program has been designed for ease-of-use and with fast step-by-step installation features so people who have no computer skills can use it," she said.
Ms Jadesada noted that Tivoli CDP would be a pilot for IBM to enter the SMB and home use markets, with other software expected to follow.
Tivoli CDP is now available for an introductory price of 499 baht (799 baht next year), at Se-Ed bookstores and IBM business partners' retail channel.
