Junta 'never harmed PPP'
(BangkokPost.com)
The country’s governing Council for National Security (CNS) on Wednesday was cleared of any wrongdoing for its role behind the secret documents scandal which contained an order to suppress a certain political party.
Members of the military-appointed Election Commission (EC) voted 4-1 in favour of exonerating the CNS. They ruled that the said documents had not affected any political party or any individual.
The majority of EC members also agreed that the CNS should not be punished since no financial budget had been approved to carry out the order.
The only EC member who voted against the CNS was Sodsri Sattayatham.
EC chairman Apichart Sukhagganond assured that EC members used their own personal judgement to conclude the case and did not allow their decision to be influenced by the CNS.
The poll agency also was to consider the controversial distribution of VCDs containing a message from ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra on Wednesday.
