Microsoft launches new Windows Live Messenger service
Redmond, Washington (dpa) - Microsoft has launched a new version of its Web-based Windows Live Services suite. The free program packet includes the Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Photo Gallery, and Windows Live Writer services, among others. The programs will be offered in a bundled download for the first time, Microsoft reported. The programs can then be installed all at once.
Among the new features is Windows Live Events event planner. Users can set appointments, issue invitations to events, and swap data with other participants. Changes have also been made to programs previously available in earlier Live Service versions. Parents now have the chance to restrict the chat activity of their children for Windows Live Messenger, for example.
The suite's e-mail program, Windows Live Hotmail, has also been reworked. Invitations now include RSVP buttons for a direct yes or no, for example. The inbox now provides up to five gigabytes of storage as well.
