PPP leader denies Thaksin phone conversation
(BangkokPost.com) – People Power party (PPP) leader Samak Sundaravej will be holding a press conference later this evening and declined to answer reporters’ questions about the possibility of him being the next prime minister.
“Polling stations have just opened for voters to cast their ballots so it would be too early for me to say anything now. I’m giving a press conference at 8:30pm this evening,” he said.
Mr Samak also denied reports that he had been on the phone with exiled premier Thaksin Shinawatra, who is currently in Hong Kong monitoring the election.
“I don’t have Mr Thaksin’s phone number,” Mr Samak insisted.
Asked about the possible formation of a new government if the PPP won the election, Mr Samak said he plans to form a coalition government with two or three other parties if the PPP does not win enough seats to form a single majority government. His first priority would be to amend the constitution which he says is “riddled with flaws”.
