Yesterday, the hosts had to settle for silver in the women's 75kg division after debutant Watcharawadee Rattanac-huang failed in her last two attempts and finished with a combined lift of 226kg.

Darmariani Sinta of Indonesia lifted 134kg, bettering the old record of 133kg set by Burma for gold.

In the men's 105kg category, Thai Kwanchai Nuchphum broke the record of compatriot Suthipon Wathana-kasikam twice in the clean and jerk category to snatch gold with an aggregate 347kg.

"This was better than what I had done in training. I hope this gold will be part of the 80th birthday anniversary celebrations of His Majesty the King," said the 27-year old.

Saenal Reynaldi of Indonesia snatched 147kg before lifting 187kg in the clean and jerk category, edging Pep Richard Agosto of the Philippines by one kilogram to win the silver.

The last Thai contestant, Niti Kam-eam, who failed in his last snatch attempt, came back to snatch the gold from Che Mohd Azrol Chemat of Malaysia, who set the Games record with his snatch of 165kg.

Both contenders were tied on their total lift of 355kg, but the Thai was awarded the gold due to his lower body weight.

Aprianto Dedi of Indonesia took the bronze after his 146kg in the snatch and 160kg lift in the clean and jerk.
