Two key RKK members seized
WAEDAO HARAI
Narathiwat _ Two key members of the Runda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK) separatist group and an insurgent sympathiser were arrested in separate raids in Narathiwat yesterday.
A 300-strong security force staged a pre-dawn raid at 10 locations in Pupor village in Rueso district following a report that Muhammad-armin Sarai, a leading RKK member, and 11 other separatists were hiding there.
After the five-hour raid, two members of the separatist group were arrested. The suspects, Abdulkareem Yamadeebu, 46, and Abdulyasi Yasing, 49, served as advisers to RKK leaders. They were given the job of instigating unrest and supervising RKK members who caused unrest in three districts in Narathiwat, said a security source.
They were sent to Ingkhayutthaboriharn military camp in Pattani.
Mr Muhammad-armin and nine other members managed to flee before the raid, however.
Meanwhile, about 100 local police and border patrol police yesterday raided a house in Sungai Kolok district and arrested the owner of the house, Mamasaoti Ma, 32.
The raid followed a tip-off that Mr Mamasaoti was a sympathiser of the southern insurgents. The suspect allegedly provided shelter to insurgents and found targets for them.
Police found one pistol, 10 rounds of ammunition and some documents in his house.
The suspect was taken to Sungai Kolok police station for further questioning before being sent to Ingkhayutthaboriharn military camp.
In the same province, a suspected insurgent accused of colluding with others to stage unrest in Rueso district turned himself in to security authorities to fight the charges against him.
Mayakree Mahor, 46, surrendered to Narathiwat task force chief Lt-Col Pathawee Srisuk. The suspect, accompanied by Abdulhareng Watae, the village head in tambon Rueso, denied any involvement in violent attacks. He was sent to Ingkhayutthaboriharn military camp yesterday for further questioning.
