185 MPs head to Parliament

A total of 185 out of 397 newly elected members of Parliament endorsed by the Election Commission (EC) reported to Parliament on the first day on Thursday.

They included People Power Party leader Samak Sundaravej and his Democrat counterpart Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Of those who showed up at Parliament 111 were from People Power, 62 Democrats, seven from Puea Pandin, three from Chart Thai and one each from Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana and Matchima Thipataya.

Earlier at the Election Commission headquarters, 238 endorsed poll-winners had picked up the EC certificates to be produced before Parliament when they reported.

Of these, 189 were constituency MPs and 49 party-list MPs.

The newly elected MPs can report for duty any time before the convening of the new House, scheduled for January 22.

They must submit their commission certificate, a copy of their identification card, a copy of their house registration, a copy of their marriage certificate as proof of marital status, a copy of their education credentials and several photographs.
