Army chief ready to talk to Potjaman

(BangkokPost.com) - Army chief Anupong Paochinda said he is ready to speak with Khunying Potjaman Shinawatra, wife of deposed premier Thaksin, for the purpose of social reconciliation.

But she will have to follow court procedure on charges against her, he quipped.

Gen Anupong also supports the idea that Mr Thaksin returns to Thailand ahead of his plan, which is scheduled for April, to clear problems involving him and his family.

However, he said he has not received any contact from the ousted premier on his planned return.

PM takes part in Children's Day

(BangkokPost.com) - Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont presided over the opening ceremony of Children's Day at the Education Ministry on Saturday morning.

He is scheduled to join the Children's Day event at the Government House later this morning.

Meanwhile, some parents brought their children to join the event there even before 8am . Highlights of the event are the opportunities for the children to visit the premier's office, the cabinet's conference room and the press room there.

Most of the visitors dressed in black and white to mourn the death of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana who passed away on Jan 2.

Entertainment activities are withheld from this year's celebration because this is still the mourning period for the late Princess.
