Foreign leaders share grief at Princess' death

Dignitaries and leaders of countries around the world have sent letters of condolence to His Majesty the King for the death of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Tharit Charungwat revealed King Jigme Singye Wangchuck of Bhutan sent a message of condolence to His Majesty the King to show his great sadness for the passing away of the monarch's elder sister.

In addition, Chinese President Hu Jintao sent the royal family a message saying: "I was shocked to learn with great grief of the untimely passing away of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana."

"Her Royal Highness, an old friend of the Chinese people, made valuable contributions to the development of Thailand's friendly relations with China."

Mr Tharit said other foreign leaders who sent condolences to His Majesty the King include the Bulgarian ambassador, Burmese dictator Senior General Than Shwe, and Singapore's top three public figures, President S.R. Nathan, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. (TNA)
