Leading official transferred to inactive post

The Social Development and Human Security Ministry yesterday ordered Suwit Khantaroj, the director of the Women's Affairs and Family Development Office, to be transferred to an inactive post at the ministry's Office of the Permanent Secretary, a source in the ministry said. The transfer followed alleged misconduct by Mr Suwit and five other officials.

Deputy minister Poldej Pinprateep said no formal complaint has been filed against him and Social Development and Human Security Minister Paiboon Wattanasiritham, despite earlier threats by opponents.

Three ministry officials had earlier submitted a letter to Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont demanding Mr Paiboon and Mr Poldej be investigated for alleged abuse of authority and corruption.

It was reported that as many as 2,000 officials at the ministry may sign a mass petition in support of the investigation.
