PPP continues plan to form coalition govt
(BangkokPost.com) - Secretary-general of People Power party (PPP) Surapong Suebwonglee expressed confidence that the PPP will lead the formation of a new coalition government although the Election Commission (EC) suspended endorsement of its 65 members.
The EC endorsed only 168 of 233 winning candidates from PPP on Thursday while it endorsed 159 of 165 winning candidates from its rival Democrat party.
Despite the EC's move, Dr Surapong said three small parties that decided to take side with the PPP have not changed their minds.
The parties are Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana, Matchimathipataya and Pracharaj. Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana won nine seats, Matchimathipataya won seven while Pracharaj won five.
He, however, said he has no further details on decisions of Chart Thai and Puea Pandin parties that suspended political activities in the past couple of days following the death of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana.
The two parties were scheduled to announce their decision to join the coalition government led by PPP but the press conference was postponed after the Princess' death early Tuesday.
