Jaruvan sues show for defamation

Jaruvan sues show for defamation

Host and co-hosts named in complaint

Auditor-General Jaruvan Maintaka has filed a defamation suit against the host and co-hosts of the Khwam Jing Wan Nee (The Truth Today) programme on the NBT channel.

In a complaint filed on her behalf by Thirachai Suansawat, who is attached to the Office of the Auditor-General in Region 10, Khunying Jaruvan accused Veera Musikapong, the host of the programme, and his co-hosts Nattawut Saikua and Jatuporn Prompan of making false accusations against her and slander.

Mr Nattawut is also deputy government spokesman and Mr Jatuporn is deputy spokesman for the ruling People Power party.

According to the complaint, the programme's hosts made four false allegations against her during shows broadcast on July 31 and Aug 1.

They alleged Khunying Jaruvan had lobbied the senate to select her as auditor-general and that she dishonestly amassed wealth.

They also claimed that the state audit agency flouted regulations involving expenses related to a trip to Europe and that Khunying Jaruvan tried to lift the value of her land by hatching a scheme to relocate the state audit office to her neighbourhood.

The hosts claimed to have received their information from officials at the Office of the Auditor-General.

Her complaint claimed the hosts of the programme did not make honest comments and intended to defame Khunying Jaruvan, accusing her of abusing her authority and seeking personal benefit from her position.
