Sanit to head Revenue Dept

Sanit to head Revenue Dept.

ANUCHA CHAROENPO

Sanit Rangnoi will return to the Revenue Department as its new chief, replacing Sirote Swasdipanich, who was fired along with four other

Finance Ministry officials last month over the controversial transfer of Shin Corp shares. Mr Sanit, now director-general of the Excise

Department, was chosen by the government yesterday to succeed Mr Sirote but he still needs royal approval before he can take the post. The

Revenue Department is not new territory for Mr Sanit, 59, as he served as deputy director-general of the agency from 1999 to 2000.

His predecessor, Mr Sirote, was dismissed on Dec 25 for the decision not to tax Bannapot Damapong, who was gifted 4.5 million Shin Corp

shares worth 738 million baht by Potjaman Shinawatra, wife of ousted premier Thaksin, through her maid. Mr Bannapot is Mr Thaksin's brother-

in-law.

The cabinet also approved Treasury Department chief Wisut Srisuphan to replace Mr Sanit at the Excise Department, finance deputy

permanent secretary Phanthip Surathin to be the new Treasury head and director-general of the Customs Department Sathit Limpongpan to

be a deputy permanent secretary. Mr Sathit will be replaced by Chavalit Setthametheekul, another deputy permanent secretary.
