RAILWAY / ACCIDENT

Two die as train hits truck on level crossing

Saraburi_A train ploughed into a pick-up truck crossing the railway track in tambon Tha Klor in Saraburi's Kaeng Khoi district yesterday, killing two women and injuring two other passengers in the vehicle.

The train was heading from Bangkok to Udon Thani.

Those killed were identified as Supisara Srivilai, 30, and Prakong Tarakachad, 35. Supisara died at the scene of the accident and Prakong died later in hospital.

The injured were truck driver Suthep Singhanart, 34, and his brother Anusorn, 24.

They were being treated at Kaeng Khoi hospital. Police said the train crashed into the Phichit-registered truck and pushed it along the line for 150 metres before stopping.

Mr Suthep said he could not see the oncoming train because trees which had overgrown the crossing had blocked his view.
