Ageing city flyovers to be repaired
SUPOJ WANCHAROEN
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will call for contract bids through an e-auction for repairs to 13 ageing flyovers at major city intersections.
Bangkok deputy governor Bannasopit Mekvichai said the bridges had been in use for more than 20 years.
The work would be divided into three groups, with one contractor for each group.
Bidding for group A was scheduled for May 8 _ for the maintenance of flyovers at Tha Phra, Bang Phlat, Wong Sawang and Prachanukul intersections.
Bids for Group B would be called on May 2 for maintenance on the Thai-Japan flyover at Samyan intersection and the flyovers at Klong Tan, Asok-Din Daeng-New Phetchaburi, Ratchadaphisek-Rama IV-Asok-Din Daeng and Ramkhamhaeng-Rama IV intersections.
Bidding for Group C had yet to be scheduled. It would be for maintenance work on the flyovers at Ngamwongwan-Pracha Chuen, Kasetsart, Ratchayothin and Din Daeng three-way intersections.
Ms Bannasopit said the cost was estimated at 400 million baht per group. After repairs, the flyovers would be in good shape for the next 10 to 15 years.
Jumpol Sampaopol, deputy chief of the city's public works department, said the work included resurfacing traffic lanes with asphalt, repainting, rust-proofing and railing repairs.
