EC confirms 70.2 pct voter turnout

(BangkokPost.com) – Lamphun has emerged as the province with highest voter turnout, according to the Election Commission (EC).

Up to 88 percent of eligible voters turned up at the polls in the northern province. Chiang Mai came in second with a voter turnout of 83.2 percent followed by Krabi with 79.5 percent.

“Overall, we can confirm that more than 32 million people exercised their voting rights nationwide, or about 70.27 percent,” said EC secretary-general Suthipol Thaweechaikarn. “Although 2.51 percent of those were bad votes, we are generally happy with the turnout.”
