Lifters land double success

The Thai weightlifting team won their first two golds in the men's event at the Korat Games yesterday. SEA Games rookie Pitaya Tibnoke captured the gold in the 85kg division and Suthiphon Watthanakasimak clinched the 94kg title.
Pitiya, 18, lifted 143kg in the snatch and 173kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 316kg.
The silver medal went to Indonesia's Hidayat Rahman who 314kg in total (142-172), and the bronze was won by Vietnam's Nguyen Quoc Hai (133-172-305).
''I am very happy to win this gold for the country in my first SEA Games,'' Pitaya said.
Suthiphon was too strong for his opponents in the 94kg class. He lifted 156kg in the snatch and 191kg in the clean and jerk for 347kg in total, well ahead of Filipino Renante Broines managed 306kg in total (136-170).
