January 19, 4pm, Helicopter Port, Bitec, Bang Na-Trat Highway

The helicopter pad of Bitec will turn into a massive dance floor with four arenas, with one each devoted to one of four different electronic sounds - hip-hop, trance, techno and electronica for Culture One: Bangkok International Dance Music Festival.

Among the local and international DJs and turntablists will be 25 renowned acts from around the globe including Grammy Award-winner David Morales, Spain's Marco V and Brian Cross, the UK's John 00 Flemming, AJ Gibson and Filthy Dukes, Singapore's Andrew Chow and Thailand's Spydamonkee and Slur.

Tickets are Bt650 when bought in advance from Thaiticketmajor, or Bt850 at the door, inclusive of one drink.

Virtuoso violin

January 12 and 13, 4pm, College of Music, Mahidol University

Following up on his promise to give Bangkok a show, Russian violinist Maxim Vengerov will perform Tchaikovsky's "Violin Concerto D Major Op 35" and "Symphony No 1 in G Minor Op 13" as well as Thai traditional music in a concert with the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra.

Venerov won the 1997 Edison Award for Best Concerto Recording, 2002 Gramophone Artist of the Year and 2004 Edison Award for Best Instrumental Soloist as well as the Grammy award for Best Instrumental Soloist.

Colour Your Life

January 21, 7pm, Thailand Cultural Centre

Danish jazz vocalist Benni Chawes and his band are coming to Bangkok as part of the Colour Your Life European Jazz series. He'll be promoting his latest album "Up Close".

Accompanying him will be Danish pianist Jacob Christoffersen and Swedish trumpet player Anders Bergcrantz. During their 10-day Thailand tour they are also scheduled to play at 7pm on January 22 for the Privilege show at Belle Villa in Chiang Mai. Shows in Samui and Pattaya are also planned.

Chaws graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in piano performance. He won the "1993 Award for Outstanding Musicianship" and the "1991 Band of the year" in Denmark. Benni has performed and recorded with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Aaron Neville, Vox One, Bob Moses, Laszlo Gardony, Al Agami, Jan Glaesel and Thomas Blackman.
