Potjaman released on bail on SC Asset case

(BangkokPost.com) - The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) released Potjaman Shinawatra, wife of ousted premier Thaksin on one-million-baht bail over a share concealment ploy involving the SC Asset Co, a firm run by her family.

Khunying Potjaman then went to the DSI office where she was released on five-million-baht bail by the Supreme Court over the controversial Ratchadaphisek land deal.

Accompanying her to the DSI office were her three children -- Panthongtae, Pinthongta and Paethongtan Shinawatra.

Members of the People Power party including Chaowarin Latasaksiri and Prawat Uttamote were there to show support.

Potjaman granted bail by Supreme Court

(BangkokPost.com) – Less than an hour before Mrs Potjaman Shinawatra returned to Thailand, deputy prime minister in charge of security, Gen Sonthi Boonyaratkalin was said to have attended a breakfast meeting with members of the Council for National Security (CNS).

It is believed the meeting was held to discuss Mrs Potjaman’s return from Hong Kong, who is to appear in court over a land scandal deal.

Other topics for discussion include the situation in Buri Ram Province, where local election commissioners have reportedly received constant threats.

Deputy Prime Minister, Gen Somjet Boonthanom, chief of the CNS secretariat office, will travel to Buri Ram Province in a trip aimed at boosting the morale of election commission officials there.

Queen Elizabeth saddened by Princess’ death

(BangkokPost.com) - Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has expressed condolences for the death of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana.

The British Ambassador to Thailand, His Excellency Quinton Mark Quayle - who came to the Grand Palace on Tuesday morning to sign condolence book - said that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II submitted a condolence letter to His Majesty the King on Monday.

In the letter, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II stated that she was deeply saddened upon receiving news of the passing of the Princess and that her passing was a great loss to the people of Thailand.
