Take to heart King's advice

Take to heart King's advice

Tharn Settakij Editorial - The past year has been so unusual that we are now praying for better times. And thanks to His Majesty the King's repeated calls for national unity and reconciliation, things should look up in 2008.

Because the country was still run by an interim government, several foreign investors withheld making new commitments throughout 2007. Thai people were also sharply divided along political lines, and this also affected sentiment in the business sector.

To correct the situation, His Majesty called for national unity during the annual Trooping of the Colour parade on Dec 3. Everyone knows the country is in a precarious situation. We will be in grave danger if we are not united, the King said. The following day, on the eve of his 80th birthday, the King again emphasised the importance of unity. The issue was mentioned again in his address to the public on Dec 5.

The King suggested that those entrusted with responsibilities should focus more on their jobs and finish them in a timely manner.

His Majesty's message is the best New Year's gift for the people. We hope everyone will follow his advice by becoming less selfish and by joining hands to work for the good of the country.
